Although it resembles certain Eastern confections, pastila is a quintessentially Russian dessert. It was first produced in the 15th century, made from apple purée, berry pulp, and honey. Later, in the 19th century, sugar was added to its ingredients.
During the Soviet era, a recipe was developed for a type of *pastila* (fruit confection) made using a special "cooked base" (*zavarka*) prepared from sugar and apple purée.
This pastila is prepared according to USSR GOST standards, preserving traditional Russian methods and using only natural ingredients; it contains no fats, preservatives, or artificial colors. It can be considered a healthy food product, as it contains a variety of beneficial substances, including apple purée and agar.
Apple purée. The health benefits of apple purée stem from its rich vitamin and mineral content. It contains vitamins C, PP, E, B1, and B2, as well as minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, and iron. Consuming apple purée helps strengthen the entire body, boosts the immune system, increases hemoglobin levels in the blood, and improves digestion.
Agar, an ingredient in this treat, helps normalize liver function and effectively eliminates toxins and waste products; it also helps regulate the digestive system and improve stomach function. Since agar is derived from seaweed, it is rich in iodine.
